In Lower Manhattan, the many towering buildings and the bustle of Wall Street tend to get all of the attention, but what you may not know is that it is also home to many lovely waterside parks. Battery Park at the tippy-tip of Manhattan, is named for the artillery batteries that once stood there and protected the nascent city in its early days. At Nelson A. Rockefeller Park, you can borrow games and equipment (from May through October) to enjoy on its wide lawns. Or head to Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park, which boasts a public roof deck with superb views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor.
